Parker Whitfill affirms versus Jason Yang in the 5-0 debate at the 2017 Barkley Forum. 1NC goes for 7 minutes of impact turns to the aff, i.e. heg good. 1AR goes for link turns saying that the aff is the best way to decrease hegemony and that case outweighs. 2NR goes for heg and the 2ar collapses to 2 link turns on the heg debate. Decision is for the affirmative by Akash Gogate. This is a phenomenal debate to practice util with--here are some suggestions for redos: 1. Try giving Parker's 1ar and 2ar verbatim. His strategy choices are spot on. Notice how his 1ar puts out several layers (small scale vs big stick impact weighing, case outweighs, link turns) and his 2ar collapses to one those layers (the link turns). 2. Give Jason's 2NR but a) kick the alternative and b) do more comparative link weighing on who increases heg most. For example, your 2NR overview could be something like "the aff claims they increase heg because of X and Y and the neg claims they increase heg because of A and B, the top level question of this debate is which of these 4 links are the most important. Link A outweighs because of D, E, and F." 3. Give Parker's 1ar but instead go for heg bad and do 4 minutes of the impact weighing debate. ——————— Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/debatedrills Join our newsletter: http://www.debatedrills.com
