Claiming a School Page
Coaches and school administrators can claim their school's page. Once a moderator approves the claim, they manage the page: which teams and students are part of the school, and the school's logo.
- Route:
/settings?category=my-school(claim),/schools/[school](manage),/admin#schools(review) - Package:
debate-webview(settings tab, school-page panel, admin panel),apps/debate-ai.com(API and tables)
Claiming a school
- Open Settings → My school.
- Start typing your school's name and pick it from the list. If it isn't there, tick My school isn't listed — create it and type the name.
- Choose whether you're the school's Coach or School administrator.
- Confirm the claim one of two ways:
- Verify my school email — enter the address your school gave you. We email a six-digit code; enter it under Your claims. Codes expire after 15 minutes and allow five tries; Send a new code issues another. Personal addresses (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and the like) can't verify a school.
- I'll explain instead — tell the moderators how you're connected to the school (at least 20 characters).
- Submit. The claim then waits on a moderator, and you get a notification when it's decided, with any note the moderator left.
You can withdraw a claim any time before it's approved. You can't have two open claims on the same school.
Reviewing claims (moderators)
The School claims tab in /admin lists every claim waiting on review,
oldest first: the school, whether it's new, the claimant's name and account
email, the verified school address (if any), their explanation, and — when
the school already has owners — who they are. Approve or reject, optionally
with a note to the claimant. Claims still waiting on an email code aren't
listed until the code is entered.
Approving a claim on a school that isn't on any ranking list creates its
page, so /schools/<name> shows the school with its logo and roster before
any ranking lists it.
Managing the school page
On /schools/[school], owners (and staff) see controls under the school's
name:
- Teams and Students — add an entry by name (students may have an optional email, shown only to the page's managers) and remove one with ×. A school's roster holds up to 300 entries.
- Logo — Set logo uploads a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, scaled down to 256 px; the trash button deletes it.
Everyone else sees the logo, who manages the page, and the roster. A school nobody has claimed shows a Claim this school's page link instead.
Known gaps
- An approved owner can only be removed by editing the database; there is no "remove owner" control yet.
- Roster entries are names, not links to ranked teams or user accounts.
