Plan Inclusive Counterplans (PICs)

  1. Overview
  2. Examples

PICs Bad (Affirmative)

PICs are a voter

  1. Aff Ground – extreme aff inclusion makes solvency deficits impossible and forces a 1AR reset by stealing the 1AC – that decreases depth of clash and education – disads of the PIC net benefit alone solve
  2. Education - encourages vague plans to avoid PICs – that undermines specificity of args and causes stale debates
  3. Infinitely regressive – there always can be some miniscule problem with the plan – causes debate on comma placement, word choice, and grammar – crowds out substance and predictability

PICs Good (Negative)

We get [___] PICs PICs are good

  1. Real World – policy makers routinely debate the merits of exceptions of general rules - solvency advocates prove it’s a relevant topic question and there’s answers to the CP in the literature
  2. Neg Flex - we ought test from multiple angles to find the best possible policy option – reading a better aff solves if the CP is abusive because agent key warrants should answer the CP
  3. Counterplan competition prevents abuse – requiring net benefits and answering perms sets a functional limit on breadth over depth
