Abstract. In competitive debate formats, critiques of systemic mindsets are misapplied to preclude debating a supposed outcome. This paper corrects how these quotes should have been applied from the start. Critics quote philosophical positions in false juxtaposition to create a false dichotomy between supporting a supposed outcome and a scholarship credibility reduction. One cannot assert that broader oppressive structures exist and demand that the affirmative rethink first, without a feasible opportunity cost that interested readers facing the harm could use. First, all quoted evidence β€” including critical theory β€” functions as a lens, not a gateway; each debater decides what to take from it. Second, a generalized 'the system is doomed' claim does not warrant rejecting concrete action; risk of systemic failure is not a certainty of it. Last, critical reflection leads to concurrent verification through plan testing.
